Interfacility Transport Ambulance
We are currently taking applications for full-time EMT or Paramedic position to staff the Interfacility Transport Ambulance.
JOB SUMMARY - Paramedic
Perform duties associated with treatment and transport of sick and injured persons. The primary role is to staff a non-emergency ambulance and provide professional, compassionate care during patient transports between facilities. The secondary role is to back-up emergency crews and assist in providing emergency medical services within the DFPD response area.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 - Actively participate on non-emergency ambulance transport assignments to local, regional and long-range patient destinations.
 - Actively participate in emergency calls and medical standby requests at the level commensurate to the qualification/certification of the employee.
 - Function within the scope of practice as defined by state, local and agency policy and protocols.
 - Safely operate DFPD vehicles in non-emergency and emergency situations.
 - Assist in maintaining emergency/non-emergency vehicles including inspecting, cleaning and servicing of equipment, tools, facilities, grounds. Request recommendations on needed repairs. Deficiencies reported to EMS Supervisor.
 - Performs administrative duties including report writing, data storage and retrieval and maintaining open communication lines, both verbally and orally. Types of communication including receiving and relaying calls and alarms; radio transmissions, using pagers, using telephones and cellular phones and creating written communications.
 - Participates in continuing education, drills and training exercises.
 - Appropriately and promptly document all patient reports. This is done preferably right after the call is complete but should be done before leaving the shift unless permission is obtained from the EMS Supervisor. This includes all required paperwork being complete and signed.
 - Maintain personal physical fitness as stated in the DFPD Wellness & Fitness initiative.
 
OTHER DUTIES
- Maintain required CE’s to maintain EMS and hazmat certifications at appropriate level, as well as maintaining other required certifications. It is the employees’ responsibility to maintain all required certifications.
 - Maintains familiarity with specialized equipment used in the course of performing duties.
 - Demonstrates success at communicating and resolving relationship issues with co-workers and customers/patients.
 - Looks for and suggest ways to continuously improve the quality of processes and systems related to individual job responsibilities.
 - Effectively utilize appropriate computer systems as it relates to individual job.
 - Attends required privacy training and maintains the confidentiality of all patients and members as outlined in Chapter 2 “Staff Roles and Responsibilities” of the Privacy Manual.
 - In caring out the duties and task assigned, they shall all be completed in a safe manner for you and your team.
 - Performs other duties of a related nature or level.
 
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Knowledge, skills and abilities of pre-hospital emergency medical care and transport of the sick and injured at the EMT-P level.
 - Extensive knowledge of current trends in advanced life support EMS.
 - Knowledge of DFPD protocols.
 - Knowledge of DFPD district geography and boundaries.
 - Knowledge of DFPD ambulances and medical equipment.
 - Knowledge of DFPD rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
 - Skill in performing physically strenuous activities in high stress environments.
 - Ability to provide calm, professional, and compassionate care to patients for long periods of time.
 - Skill in communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, officers, supervisor, other professionals and the general public sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction and form mutually beneficial networks.
 - Good organizational skills and ability to work independently.
 - Provide direction and supervision during EMS calls and assignments.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED); State of Colorado certified EMT-Paramedic; trained to Hazmat Operations level; valid State Driver’s License; ACLS; CPR for the professional rescuer (or approved equivalent). Prefer PHTLS, BTLS, AMLS and PALS or PEPP.
Must pass and maintain a yearly DFPD assessment and physical as stipulated in the DFPD wellness and fitness initiative to perform the duties, activities and requirements as stipulated in the job description.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Must pass and maintain a yearly DFPD Physician’s physical to perform the duties, activities and requirements as stipulated in the job description.
Must comply with the organization’s wellness and fitness program, including passing the functional ability test and participating in the Cooper Fitness Evaluation.
This is a 12-hour shift position – 32-44 hours per week and may include occasional out-of-town, overnight assignments transporting patients to or from destinations outside of the region.
Starting hourly rate is $26.01 for EMT or $31.81 for Paramedic.

This position will remain open until filled. Interviews and testing will be scheduled as qualified applications are received. The testing process will consist of a written test including EMS questions, an EMS skills assessment, a moderate physical component, and an oral interview.
