Durango Fire & Rescue uses a Physical Agility Test (PAT) to help ensure candidates are physically prepared to safely perform the essential functions of firefighting and emergency response. 

The PAT is designed to simulate real fireground and emergency tasks and evaluates cardiovascular endurance, strength, and overall functional fitness. This test is used for Annual Physical Agility Evaluations for our operations staff, and applicants seeking a career with Durango Fire & Rescue. 

Our goal is preparation — not elimination. We provide clear expectations and resources so candidates understand the physical demands of the job and can train accordingly.
